Ask donors for consent
Write the questions your giving pages ask donors - a newsletter opt-in, a volunteering tick, a citizenship attestation - and keep a record of every answer.
A consent prompt is a checkbox with your wording beside it, shown on a giving page just above the payment step. When someone gives, Together records what they were asked, the exact words they read, and whether they ticked it.
The record is evidence, not permission. Together does not add anyone to a mailing list, tag them, or change how they are contacted because of a tick. What it does is let you prove, per donation, what was asked and what was answered.
Before you start
You need ADMIN on your organisation. Editors build the giving pages; the wording is set once, organisation-wide, in Settings.
Create a prompt
- Go to Settings -> Consent prompts and click Create consent prompt.
- Write the wording exactly as the donor should read it. Up to 300 characters, plain text - no links and no formatting.
- Set the behaviour:
- Required - the donor cannot complete the donation without ticking it. Use this for an attestation you need before you can accept the money.
- Pre-ticked - the box is already ticked when the page loads. A required prompt cannot be pre-ticked; a gate answered by inertia is not evidence of anything, and Together refuses the combination when you save.
- Share with recipient organisations - recommendation sets only. When a donation is distributed to other organisations, each of them gets a copy of the answer. Leave it off for anything about your own organisation.
- Click Create consent prompt. It appears in the Library.
Read the library
Each row shows the wording, its behaviour as badges, and Placed on - how many giving pages ask it today. A prompt you have just added is asked nowhere yet, so its Placed on count is 0.
Choose which pages ask it
Where a prompt is asked is set on the page itself, by whoever builds it - an Editor can do this without being an admin.
- Open the donation form, checkout link or recommendation set you want to change, and edit it.
- Under Consent prompts, tick every prompt that page should ask. Each row shows the wording and, where they apply, Required and Pre-ticked badges.
- Save. The page starts asking them the next time a donor loads it.
Ticking is the whole action - there is no wording to type on the page. One prompt can be asked on as many pages as you like, and each page shows the prompts in the order you added them to the library. A page can ask up to eight.
Unticking a prompt stops that page asking it. It does not change the wording, delete anything, or affect any other page that asks the same prompt - and every answer already given is kept.
Reword a prompt
Click Edit on a row, change the wording or the behaviour, then Save wording.
Rewording does not re-collect consent from people who already gave. Their answer stays recorded against the exact words they saw. Reword only when the new wording means the same permission - if it means something materially different, add a new prompt instead.
Archive a prompt
Click Archive. The dialog tells you how many pages it comes off; confirm and it stops being asked on all of them.
- Answers donors have already given are kept, in full, with the wording they saw.
- Restoring the prompt later brings the wording back to the library, asked on nothing. Nothing you archived starts gating a page again on its own.
What to do next
- Donation form fields - every field on a form, including where consent prompts sit.
- Read the donations list - where each donation's recorded answer shows up.
