Request an election period

When an election is called, disclosure rules tighten. Together support adds the election to your org so your returns shift to the campaign cadence automatically.

An election period is the window from the day the writ is issued through to a week after polling day. During this window the post-2027 federal regime applies tighter reporting cadences. Together support configures election periods on your behalf so the regime shift happens at the right moment.

Before you start

You need:

Steps

  1. Email Together support with the election details. Provide:

    FieldWhat we need
Election typeFEDERAL_GENERAL, FEDERAL_BYELECTION, FEDERAL_DOUBLE_DISSOLUTION, SENATE_ONLY, or one of the state options.
NameA human label, e.g. "2027 federal general". Shown in your dashboard and alerts.
Writ issued dateThe date the writ was issued.
Polling dateThe date of polling day itself.
  2. Together adds the election to your org. View configured elections at Settings -> Compliance -> Elections (read-only for org admins).

  3. From writ-issued onwards, Together evaluates every donation against the new period boundaries and adjusts disclosure deadlines accordingly.

What changes once the period is active

While an election period is active (post-2027 regime):

Pre-2027 donations

The regime change is dated. Donations dated before 1 January 2027 are evaluated against the financial-year regime regardless of which election periods are configured. The tighter campaign and around-polling-day deadlines only apply to donations dated 1 January 2027 onwards.

Multiple overlapping periods

You can have multiple election periods configured at once (e.g., a state by-election overlapping a federal general). Together applies the strictest regime to any donation that falls in both periods. If the stricter regime is ambiguous, talk to your compliance lead before submitting any return for the overlap window.
